Margaret Smith

Sailing at Whitstable

My name is Margaret Smith, and photography is in my blood. As the daughter of a professional photographer, I have taken photos for as long as I can remember, inspired by watching images magically appear in the darkroom of my father’s Islington studio in the 60s. I now work digitally with a Canon 5D, but I continue to be fascinated by the process of capturing a moment in time, and developing it into a permanent record; people or places, flora or fauna, life, landscape, still life, seascape - too many subjects, too little time.

I am also a primary school teacher, bird and butterfly watcher, walker, artist, reader, book collector, and I enjoy listening to all kinds of music! I am looking forward to working with Whitstable Choral Society, and to recording their events and performers. I have previously been employed to photograph weddings, school prospecti, private views, portraits and drama groups. Here is a sample of the feedback I’ve received:

The posed photos are lovely and you had the patience of a saint setting those ones up with our huge families….the mud…and the ever changing weather! The natural shots are wonderful and in some you can really imagine what people are thinking or saying!”

“You did a wonderful job. You managed to capture every aspect of the day and I really cannot thank you enough. “
