David held his first parish church organist post at 15. He became Organ Scholar of St. John's College, Oxford and spent a further postgraduate year at Clare College, Cambridge. In 1978 he was appointed Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral and during this time he was involved in many national and international occasions, such as the enthronement of Archbishop Runcie and the visit of Pope John Paul II. In 1986 he was appointed Organist and Master of Choristers at Lincoln Cathedral and in 1988 returned to Canterbury as Organist and Master of Choristers. The Cathedral Choir, under David's direction, has toured Europe and the USA a number of times. He was invited by the Riga Dom Boys Choir and the Latvian Ministry of Culture to direct a week of workshops and lectures on the training of boys' voices in March 1997. He recently directed the music for the Enthronement of Archbishop Rowan, the third successive Enthronement at which he has played a very significant role. He is a conductor for the Berkshire Choral Festival, Massachusetts USA, which also hosts a festival each summer in Canterbury. Each summer he hosts a course for American children's choirs in Canterbury, with between 300 and 400 singers. He was delighted to receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Music from the University of Kent in July 2002. Conducting
the Whitstable Choral Society is a source of great enjoyment, through
its friendliness and the sense of fun, together with achievement of
excellent concerts. David likes to ensure that all members of the Choral
Society find a warm welcome, a huge reward and plenty of fun in their
singing. design © Canterhill Consulting |
